Internet services offered through collective access centres (CAC), organised at post offices. Are monthly used by about 250 thousand people, – declared acting RF Minister of Communications and informatisation Leonid Reiman at the enlarged session of the RF Ministry of communications final Board on Tuesday.
According to him, "Cyberpocht@" project, in the framework of which nearly in all Russia’s regions Internet CACs were opened on the basis of post offices, is a "brilliant example of different technologies and services integration in the process of forming information society in Russia". From early 2002, noted L. Reiman, over 4 m Russians used the services of collective Internet access at the post office. The total number of Internet CACs now exceeds 3 thousand. L. Reiman also noted that Russian Internet segment is now rapidly developing: the amount of services, excluding network access services, is assessed at $220 m, which is 25 % growth in comparison with 2002.
The total number of Russian people using the global network is, according to different estimates, from 12 to 14 m people, said acting Minister L. Reiman, and, speaking about Internet traffic growth in the RF, noted that up to 70 % of the traffic is closed inside Russia.
